WHAT IS IT?

Vitamins are compounds that you must have for normal growth and good health. They are needed in small quantities and are usually found in the foods you eat. Vitamin B-12 is necessary for healthy blood. Cyanocobalamin and hydroxocobalamin are vitamins B-12 in synthetic form.

Some people have a medical problem known as pernicious anemia in which vitamin B12 is not absorbed from the intestine. Other people may have a gut too sick or have had a removal of much of the stomach or intestine, therefore, vitamin B-12 can not be absorbed. These people need to receive vitamin B12 by injection.

Patients more prone to deficiency of vitamin B-12, are those with the following conditions: alcoholism fever or continuous stress, infections or chronic continuous, genetic disorders such as homocystinuria and / or methylmalonic aciduria, hemolytic anemia, intestinal disease, disease kidney, liver, pancreas disease, stomach disease, or infestation by worms.

If any of the above situations applies, you should take supplements of vitamin B-12 only at the suggestion of his doctor and after establishing the need.

Lack of vitamin B12 can lead to anemia (weak blood), stomach problems and nerve damage. Your doctor might treat the above problems by prescribing vitamin B-12.
